Most "German Grammar" at the Internet is much like a very boring grammar-book,
only even less comfortable to read
The best grammar-book I ever found was and is:
"Grundgrammatik Deutsch" von Jürgen Kars, Ulrich Häussermann Preis: EUR 23,95
No exercises though. (Those are in Prof. Häussermanns old, but still interesting "Sprachkurs Deutsch").
Wolfgang Hieber has put together a good new example of "German grammar for beginners":

It has well done exercises too!
For "Landeskunde"(Alltag in Deutschland) you might like his other project(not for absolute beginners):
